Summer is Heating Up

With July comes the heat of the sun and high humidity along with the possible continuation of the rain we have experienced this Spring.   Here are a few beat the heat tips to keep your flowers, shrubs, lawn and gardens looking their best and thriving throughout the summer.

  1. Feed your plants mid-season to keep them healthy and thriving into Fall.
  2. If it hasn’t rained in two days then you should water both in the morning and again in the late afternoon.
  3. Make sure your mulch is not dried out.  Always water mulch after you add it to your gardens.
  4. When mowing, to protect your yard from the heat of the sun, keep the turf about 3” tall.
  5. Pruning dead flowers and leaves from your plants will keep them healthy and green.
  6. If your flowers are drooping – stake and tie them if they become too top heavy.
  7. Let your shrubs and trees take a summer break – don’t do any pruning during the hot months.  Wait until the Fall to shape up your shrubs and trees if you can.
